bela is an association that seeks to provide women in the built environment an opportunity to meet once a month in a fun relaxed environment, to socialise and be apart of professional and personal topics relevant to women in the industry.
The Association is a non-profit, voluntary, community based organisation with the following mission:
- To bring together women involved in the professional and related aspects, of the built environment.
- To inspire, uplift and empower women in the built environment.
- To promote the meeting of minds and exchange of ideas amongst all its members in a supportive environment.
- To promote friendship and a culture of fun, creative, supportive, and inspiring networking, fostering support, and the development of skills.
- To provide a co-operative, synergetic, cross-sector environment for contributions and fair participation.
What we do: bela will arrange one event per month, and the three themes will run on a quarterly cycle, i.e. Site visits, professional development and personal development (in no particular order).
Our Commitment: This association commits itself to promoting social networking and development for women involved in the professional and related aspects, of the built environment… in a non-racial, non-discriminating and democratic way and to provide equal rights to all members and administrators.
This association will promote the highest possible principles and values amongst our members, and uphold consideration, honesty, and integrity amongst the members.
bela membership is open to all women over the age of 18 who have a career interest in any professional and related aspect of the built environment, including Environmental Consultants, Built environment professionals and technicians, Lawyers specialising in Construction, Interior designers, and Students in the Field, to name but a few.
Membership:
bela members will have access to:
- a fun, supportive space to associate and collaborate ideas;
- an opportunity to build personal knowledge, confidence in a safe environment;
- an environment that promotes friendship and a culture of fun, creative, supportive, and inspiring networking, fostering support, and the development of skills;
- opportunities self development and intellectual advancement;
- a fostering culture of shared, supportive and creative problem solving;
- Be around women from the built environment, who celebrate being women, acknowledge differences, and building one another up;
- a learning environment, that seeks to establish/foster knowledge.

Registration:
To register please complete the following form, and pay the initiation fee of R100. For the first 6 months from launching, events will be paid for on an adhoc basis? Or the first event is free and annual membership will be pro-proportional after that.
Applications for membership:
All applications for membership shall be in writing and shall include the following where appropriate: The name of the person or body, Name(s) and address, contact numbers of person, email address, profession/vocation.
A register, which will reflect all information stated above, shall be kept of all its members. This register will be available for inspection by interested parties at the discretion of the Executive, and in-line with POPIA.
