On 6 July 2022 bela (Built Environment Ladies Association) hosted a professional development workshop for its members. Presented by Simon Hall – Geberit Sales Development, the presentation covered Geberit’s contributions to sustainable design in bathrooms along with water saving tips and products.
Geberit is a Swiss company that specialises in sanitary products and has been in the industry for more than 140 years, the company has received a platinum award for sustainability in 2021. Geberit covers water supply, sustains a building’s drainage system as well as the ceramics.

Geberit prioritises the well-being of the environment and its employees therefore Geberit is dedicated to optimising their products and processes to benefit the environment and climate change reduction.
With the well-being of their employees in mind, Geberit recognises that reducing noise plays a vital role when it comes to occupational health, wearing noise protective gear can be stressful and, as a result, Geberit has implemented several measures for reducing nose in installations caused by the production process, such as the usage of sound-cams and microphones that detect noise so that the team is able to reduce the noise.
While 70 % of the earth is made up of water, many parts of the world suffer from lean water shortage, conserving water is important because it keeps water pure and lean while protecting the environment. Geberit offers a full system for buildings, providing upkeep and supplies through high quality unified water saving sanitary Technology.
3 Ways in which Geberit plays a role in water conservation:
- Toilets offering a 4,5l full flush of a Cristen
- Technology taps and urinals that offer self-sustaining power supply options
- Enhanced water harvesting and roof drainage (Geberit Pluvia)
Geberit Pluvia
Pluvia is a siphonic roof drainage system where pipes are laid out horizontally with the system completely joined from the floor right up to the roof of a building.
Corrosion is often one of the biggest problems associated with metal piping systems, Geberit is the only roof drainage system on the market that utilizes pipes made out of HDPE plastic assuring the resistance to corrosion and smaller risks of leakage
How Pluvia works
This is essentially drainage made easier, negative pressure is the principle you needed for roof drainage, because roof drainage is important this is how siphonic roof drainage works with Geberit pluvia.
Smaller pipe diameters which fill completely in the event of heavy rain result in a closed water column, the water is then suctioned off the roof with negative pressure, Geberit pluvia roof outlets make sure that all the rainwater drains off without interruption of the suction effect, the high flow speed ensures that the system self-cleanses, this cuts down on cleaning and maintenance costs.
In conventional roof drainage systems, the pipes require a slope, this takes up valuable space that is not the case with Geberit pluvial, with this system no slopes are created during installation this ensures more efficient use of space.
The system requires far fewer roof outlets, has smaller pipe dimensions, fewer pipes, fewer discharge stacks and fewer connections to the sewage system this offers flexibility for architectural designs, conserves material and cuts down on work.
